Introduction

Myanmar, a Southeast Asian country rich in natural resources, once seemed poised for rapid growth. After decades of military rule, reforms in the 2010s brought new investment and optimism. But a military coup in 2021 reversed much of that progress.

A Decade of Opening

Starting around 2011, Myanmar began opening its economy. Foreign companies invested in telecommunications, manufacturing, and energy. Mobile phone use exploded, and the economy grew rapidly. Many hoped Myanmar would become the next Asian growth story.

The 2021 Coup

In February 2021, the military seized power from the elected government. Protests, armed conflict, and international sanctions followed. Many foreign companies left the country, and the economy shrank sharply. The local currency lost value, and inflation rose.

Life Today

Ongoing conflict has displaced millions of people and disrupted farming, trade, and education. Electricity shortages and banking problems make daily life difficult. Myanmar's rich resources, including jade, timber, and natural gas, remain largely untapped for ordinary people's benefit.

Conclusion

Myanmar's story shows how political stability is essential for economic growth. Peace will be the key to unlocking the country's potential!
