Introduction

Libya has the largest proven oil reserves in Africa. Oil should make it one of the continent's wealthiest countries. However, years of conflict and political division have kept its economy unstable.

Oil Dependence

Oil and gas account for the vast majority of Libya's exports and government revenue. Under Muammar Gaddafi's rule, oil wealth funded subsidies and public services. After his fall in 2011, Libya struggled to form a stable government.

Conflict and Disruption

Since 2011, Libya has experienced civil conflict and has been divided between rival governments. Fighting has repeatedly shut down oil fields and ports, causing production to swing wildly. These disruptions have hurt government budgets and daily life.

Challenges and Hopes

Libya's small population and large oil wealth give it potential for prosperity. However, corruption, armed groups, and political division make progress difficult. Building stable institutions is key to using oil wealth for the benefit of all Libyans.

Conclusion

Libya shows how political stability is essential to turning natural resources into lasting prosperity!
