Introduction
Fast food combo meals, cable TV packages, and streaming bundles all have something in common. They combine several products into one package. Economists call this bundling.
What Is Bundling?
Bundling means selling multiple products or services together for a single price. Sometimes customers can still buy items separately, called mixed bundling. Other times, products are only available as a bundle, called pure bundling.
Why Companies Bundle
Bundling can increase sales by encouraging customers to buy items they might not purchase alone. It can also simplify choices and create a sense of value. Companies like Microsoft bundle software, and streaming companies bundle services like Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.
Pros and Cons for Consumers
Bundles can save money if you want everything included. But they can also make you pay for things you do not need, like cable channels you never watch. Regulators sometimes investigate bundling when large companies use it to push out competitors.
Conclusion
Bundling is everywhere once you notice it. Understanding it helps you decide whether a package deal is really a good deal!
