Introduction

Hungary is a central European country known for the beautiful city of Budapest and its thermal baths. Since joining the European Union in 2004, its economy has grown, though it has faced unique challenges.

Manufacturing Strength

Hungary has a strong manufacturing sector, especially in car production. German automakers like Audi and Mercedes-Benz have large factories there. In recent years, Hungary has attracted major investments in electric vehicle batteries from Asian companies.

Economic Policies

The Hungarian government has used tax breaks and incentives to attract foreign investment. It also introduced policies to encourage families to have more children, including tax benefits and loans. Hungary has one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the European Union.

Challenges

Hungary experienced very high inflation in 2023, among the highest in the EU, partly due to energy prices. Disagreements with the EU over rule of law issues have led to some EU funds being withheld. Like many countries in the region, Hungary faces an aging population and labor shortages.

Conclusion

Hungary shows how manufacturing and investment can drive growth. Its relationship with Europe will continue to shape its economic future!
