Introduction

Honduras is a Central American country with beautiful beaches, mountains, and rainforests. Its economy relies on agriculture, manufacturing, and money sent home by Hondurans working abroad.

Agriculture and Coffee

Agriculture employs many Hondurans. The country is one of the largest coffee producers in Central America and also exports bananas, palm oil, and shrimp. Weather events like hurricanes can severely damage crops and livelihoods.

Manufacturing for Export

Honduras has many factories, called maquilas, that produce clothing and auto parts for export, especially to the United States. These factories provide jobs but are sensitive to changes in global demand and trade rules.

Remittances and Challenges

Money sent home by Hondurans living in the United States makes up a large share of the economy, often around a quarter of GDP. Honduras faces challenges including poverty, crime, and limited job opportunities, which have led many people to migrate.

Conclusion

Honduras shows how global connections shape small economies. Creating more opportunities at home is key to its future growth!
